Abstract

Muraqabah is a prophetic tradition. Therefore, in the past and today, many Muslim spiritual leaders, particularly Sufi leaders, have embraced the concept of muraqabah . This practice assists the followers of the spiritual path in improving focus, attention, and contemplation during concentration and breath meditation. This section details the influence of Sufism in how muraqabah is perceived and practised today, stemming from its origins with the Prophet. In Sufi practice, muraqabah is a form of meditation within the Islamic tradition. During this practice, the disciple nurtures their soul, manages thoughts, intentions, and emotions that hinder divine remembrance, and gains insight into the soul’s connection with the creator by being attentive to feelings and environment.
