Mindfulness-based interventions have demonstrated benefits for emotional regulation, psychological resilience, and well-being, yet the structural mechanisms through which mindfulness produces sustained transformation remain insufficiently articulated. Existing explanations—attention regulation, body awareness, decentring, emotion regulation, neuroplasticity—are typically presented as parallel and largely linear pathways from practice to outcome. System Dynamics has been applied to psychological disorder, notably in causal loop models of depression and simulation models of post-traumatic stress, but in that literature intervention typically enters the model exogenously, as a parameter change applied to a disorder structure. This paper inverts that relation: it models the intervention itself as endogenous feedback structure. Using anger and worry as illustrative cases, the paper shows how reactive emotional patterns operate through reinforcing loops linking triggering events, physiological arousal, negative appraisal, rumination, and reactive behaviour, and how short-term relief through expression functions as a symptomatic solution that stabilises the structure producing the problem.
