Abstract

To investigate the neural and behavioral effects of structured breathwork protocols on innovation capacity and cognitive performance in professional engineers using real-time EEG monitoring. Fifteen engineers from Audi AG participated in a controlled experiment featuring three conditions: Alpha breathwork (coherent breathing), Gamma breathwork (rapid nasal cycles), and control. Eight participants were monitored using Niura's 24-bit in-ear EEG system. Neural oscillations and creativity performance were assessed through brainwave analysis and structured ideation tasks. Alpha breathwork was associated with the highest alpha-band power (0.693), exceeding gamma (0.676) and control (0.641), and yielded the strongest creativity quality with higher novelty (3.37) and feasibility (3.02). Gamma breathwork showed the greatest gamma activity (0.404) and generated the most ideas, producing 54 unique ideas and 170 total items versus 41 (165) in alpha and 50 (134) in control.
