Evolutionary psychology has historically paid little attention to dream theory and content, but recent interest in Freudian and Jungian ideas has prompted a broader examination of dreaming. Dream content analysis may offer useful data for testing evolutionary hypotheses about behavior.

Recently exploration of Freudian and Jungian ideas has begun, making a more extensive examination of dreaming desirable.
