Summary

AI-generated from the abstract

Mindfulness therapy, particularly Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), is a main component for treating borderline personality disorder (BPD). The therapy teaches skills for controlling intense emotions and reducing self-destructive behaviors. Decentering appears to play a crucial role as a primary mechanism of action. The evidence, assessed through a systematic review of PubMed/Medline, suggests that mindfulness-based approaches are effective for BPD, though medical treatment alone is insufficient.
