Mindfulness Meditation Training for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in Adulthood: Current Empirical Support, Treatment Overview, and Future Directions.

Cogn Behav Pract May 1, 2015

Mindfulness meditation training shows promise as a treatment for adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The review examines current empirical evidence, provides an overview of how mindfulness-based interventions are adapted for adult ADHD, and discusses future directions for research and clinical practice. The authors suggest that mindfulness training may improve attention regulation and reduce ADHD symptoms, but note that more rigorous studies are needed to establish its efficacy and to clarify the mechanisms by which it works.
