Inefficient default mode network hyperconnectivity characterizes chronic low back-related leg pains: a static and dynamic functional MRI study.

Brain Imaging Behav February 28, 2026

Chronic low back-related leg pain is associated with inefficient hyperconnectivity in the brain's default mode network. Using static and dynamic functional MRI, the study found that patients with this condition exhibit abnormally high connectivity within the default mode network, which may reflect inefficient neural processing. This hyperconnectivity could contribute to the persistence of pain and associated cognitive and emotional disturbances.
