Change of self-schemas following mindfulness-based compassionate living for recurrent depression: A qualitative study.

Acta Psychol June 15, 2026

A qualitative study examined how mindfulness-based compassionate living (MBCL) training changed self-schemas in people with recurrent depression. Participants described shifts from negative self-views to more compassionate and accepting self-perceptions. The training helped them relate to themselves with greater kindness and reduced self-criticism, leading to a more stable and positive sense of self. These changes appeared to support resilience against depressive relapse.
