Survival of occult practices and ideas in modern common sense.

Public understanding of science (Bristol, England) May 1, 2011 Sabine Doering-Manteuffel

Since the Enlightenment, rationalism and materialism dominated Western thought, but recent decades have seen strong counter-movements, often grouped under New Age and occultism. These include beliefs in angels, fate, communication with the dead, and life after death, reflecting a desire to transcend and seek higher powers. A marketplace for esoteric services has emerged. Media usage, the need to transcend, and this market signal a new era where reason and technology coexist with mysticism and wisdom transmission, rather than contradicting them.
