Neural fingerprint of the dark triad: Resting state BOLD power (fALFF) alterations in executive and default mode networks.

Resting-state brain activity in regions of the executive and default mode networks differs in people with higher levels of dark triad traits (narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy). Specifically, fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF), a measure of spontaneous neural activity, is altered in these networks, suggesting a neural fingerprint associated with these personality traits.

Parsing state mindfulness effects on neurobehavioral markers of cognitive control: A within-subject comparison of focused attention and open monitoring.

A within-subject experiment compared two meditation styles—focused attention and open monitoring—on cognitive control. Both styles improved accuracy on a Stroop task, but only open monitoring reduced interference from incongruent trials, suggesting distinct neurobehavioral effects. Focused attention enhanced overall performance, while open monitoring specifically bolstered conflict monitoring. The findings indicate that different mindfulness techniques engage separable cognitive processes.
