IN PRAISE OF DE-DESKING: LANGUAGE AND MOVEMENT THROUGH THE LENS OF 4E COGNITION IN EARLY LANGUAGE EDUCATION

Language development in children aged 6–9 is inseparably linked with movement, action, and emotions, and incorporating embodied experiences into teaching supports memory and motivation while enabling the transition from intuitive to symbolic cognition. The article argues that “de-desking” early language education is a necessity grounded in developmental and neurobiological mechanisms, not merely a methodological innovation. It interprets Pestalozzi’s “head, hand, and heart” triad as a historical precursor to the 4E cognition paradigm and identifies institutional barriers in Polish schools. The transfer of embodied experiences, encoded in procedural and emotional memory, to new communicative situations is discussed as a key challenge.
