Mindfulness-Based Treatment for Bipolar Disorder: A Systematic Review of the Literature.
Eur J Psychol August 31, 2017
A systematic review of the literature examined mindfulness-based treatments for bipolar disorder. The review indicates that mindfulness-based interventions may offer benefits for managing bipolar disorder, but the evidence base is limited and heterogeneous. The authors suggest that while some studies show positive effects on mood symptoms and quality of life, the overall quality and quantity of research is insufficient to draw firm conclusions. They call for more rigorous, larger-scale studies to establish efficacy and to clarify which patient subgroups might benefit most. The review highlights the need for standardized protocols and outcome measures in future research.
