The Nature of the Animal Soul and Possibility of Transformation: An Integrated Approach to Addiction-Related Illness

American Journal of Medical and Clinical Research & Reviews January 1, 2025 Julian Ungar-Sargon

Living beings have both an innate nature and the capacity for fundamental transformation, according to an integrative analysis of religious, philosophical, and scientific perspectives. The article synthesizes insights from Kabbalistic mysticism, Hasidism, Thomas Aquinas, Simone Weil, Eastern contemplative traditions, Twelve-Step recovery, neuroscience, epigenetics, and trauma-informed healing. It argues that a multilevel healing model addressing physical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions offers the most comprehensive foundation for treating physical illnesses related to addiction. This approach acknowledges biological constraints while embracing neuroplasticity and transformative change.
