Mapping the emergence of visual consciousness in the human brain via brain-wide intracranial electrophysiology.
Innovation April 20, 2022
Visual consciousness emerges through a rapid, coordinated sequence of activity across multiple brain regions, not from a single area. Using brain-wide intracranial electrophysiology in humans, the work maps the spatiotemporal dynamics of conscious visual perception, showing that awareness arises from distributed neural networks rather than localized activity.
