Русская философия музыки и опыт феноменологического восприятия: синестезия и психоделика

Studia culturae April 3, 2023 E. V. Boruta

Musical synesthesia can be understood through the philosophy of N. O. Lossky and the phenomenology of M. Merleau-Ponty. Lossky describes three modes of intuitive knowledge—sensual, intellectual, and mystical—where the mystical mode transgresses into the Superworld. Merleau-Ponty's existential phenomenology offers a similar scheme of perception. The theurgic synesthetic music of A. N. Scriabin exemplifies this transgression and transsubjectivity. The album "Sparrow Oratorium" by S. A. Kuryokhin inherits synesthetic traditions but transgresses them into psychedelia, metanoia, and schizophrenic psychosis, evoking an experience where emptiness becomes the center of being and, through ego death and rebirth, a person finds true essence.
