Resolution of stuttering during ketamine treatment: a case report

Stuttering, affecting about 1% of adults, can cause physical tension, social stigma, and emotional distress. Speech therapy is the primary treatment, but no medication has proven widely effective. A 60-year-old woman with lifelong stuttering experienced almost immediate resolution of her stuttering after being prescribed ketamine for an unrelated condition. This case suggests that research on ketamine's effect on stuttering could be valuable, as an effective treatment would greatly improve quality of life for people who stutter.
