Behavioural Effects of High Doses of Psilocybin in Female Rats
November 21, 2024 Larissa Rocha
High doses of psilocybin significantly affected locomotion in adult female rats 3 and 24 hours after injection, but not after 8 days. No robust effects on depression- or anxiety-like behaviors were observed at any dose tested, though trends appeared with 4 and 8 mg/kg. A preliminary evaluation suggested an interaction between psilocybin treatment and the phase of the oestrous cycle, indicating that female hormones may have a protective effect against the drug's influence on depression-like measures.
