The recreational use of psychoactive fungi, known as magic mushrooms, is a growing global problem. While collecting wild mushrooms is not illegal, marketing cultivated forms containing psilocybin or psilocin is a criminal offense in Turkey under the 1971 UN Convention and national law. Recently, mushroom spores, growing kits, and spawn bags have been sold online for home cultivation. This study presents two cases where such kits were seized. The kits contained soil, seeds, fertilizer, and grains but no psilocin at the time of seizure. Turkish law only explicitly prohibits illegal cultivation of cannabis and opium poppy, leaving a regulatory gap.
