Failure And Mistakes In Rituals Of The European Santo Daime Church: Experiences And Subjective Theories Of The Participants

January 1, 2007 Jan Weinhold 2 citations

Rituals in the European Santo Daime church involve experiences shaped by the psychoactive brew ayahuasca, which produces a spectrum of effects far richer and more complex than just altered perceptions. Participants hold subjective theories about ritual actions, including ideas about failure and mistakes that attribute reasons to human, non-human, or divine agency. The chapter links psychological insights about psychoactive substances with social theories of ritual, focusing on how participants represent their experiences and understand deviations from ritual norms.

GENDER DIFFERENCES IN A CONTENT ANALYSIS STUDY OF 608 DREAM REPORTS FROM RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS IN THE UNITED STATES

Social Behavior and Personality: an international journal January 1, 2002 Stanley Krippner, Jan Weinhold

Men's and women's dream reports in the United States differ in content, with patterns similar to those found in earlier research. The study analyzed 608 dream reports (330 from women, 278 from men) collected mostly at dream seminars between 1990 and 1996. Using Hall-Van de Castle coding on 53 categories and Cohen's h-statistic, several gender differences emerged, resembling previous findings.
