Mindfulness and compassion training on daily work with patients and within the multiprofessional palliative care team: a retrospective self-assessment study

BMC Palliative Care April 10, 2023 Franziska Lautwein, Manuela Schallenburger, Alexandra Scherg et al. 9 citations

An eight-week mindfulness and compassion course was delivered to 24 employees of a university-based palliative care unit. Attendance was moderate, with 58% attending at least four of seven voluntary days, and 91% reported moderate to high satisfaction and would recommend the program. Qualitative analysis highlighted the value of self-care in a professional context. Self-assessed learning gains were high for knowledge and techniques (38.5–49.4%), moderate for implementation of skills (26.2–34.5%), and lower for attitude changes (12.7–24.6%). The authors conclude the course was feasible and well received as a tool to introduce self-care to a multi-professional team.
