Mindfulness and Anxiety in Adolescents: Systematic Literature Review Based on Big Data

Bulletin of Counseling and Psychotherapy June 1, 2024 Dwi Susi Miftakhul Jannah, Ninik Setiyowati

A systematic literature review examined mindfulness interventions for adolescent anxiety. Analyzing 16 closely related articles from over 500 identified, encompassing 6,034 total samples, the review found mindfulness effective in reducing adolescent anxiety. A negative relationship exists between mindfulness and anxiety: adolescents with higher mindfulness tend to have lower anxiety, and vice versa. Various mindfulness intervention programs, from formal to informal practices, can be integrated into daily activities based on individual needs and circumstances. The authors conclude that mindfulness offers a viable approach to address anxiety and prevent more serious disorders.
