The Paradoxical Effect of Cannabis Use on Cognition in Chronic Psychotic Disorders

In a cohort of 105 inpatients with psychotic disorders in Tirana, cannabis users were more often male, younger, and had earlier psychosis onset than non-users. Cannabis users scored higher on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, with the best scores among daily users. The authors suggest that, contrary to common assumptions, cannabis use may be associated with preserved cognitive functioning in psychosis, but they emphasize the need to consider dosage, frequency, and THC/CBD ratio when interpreting these outcomes.
