Mind-Body Therapy for Military Veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: A Systematic Review.

Journal of alternative and complementary medicine (New York, N.Y.) February 1, 2018 Robin E Cushing, Kathryn L Braun

A systematic review of 15 studies found that mind-body therapies such as yoga, breath work, and meditation are associated with significant improvements in PTSD symptoms among war veterans, including those from post-9/11 conflicts. Study retention was 70% or higher in 14 of the 15 studies. However, about 85% of participants across the studies were from earlier conflicts, predominantly Vietnam, limiting conclusions for post-9/11 veterans. The authors call for future research with larger samples of post-9/11 veterans to evaluate short- and long-term effects of these interventions.
