Nightmare distress, insomnia and resilience of nursing staff in the post-pandemic era

AIMS Public Health December 18, 2023 A. Pachi, A. Tselebis, Christos Sikaras et al.

During the pandemic, 61.4% of nurses had abnormal insomnia scores and 7% had abnormal nightmare distress scores, while 25.4% showed low mental resilience. Female nurses reported more insomnia and nightmare distress but lower resilience than males. Mental resilience partially mediated the effect of nightmares on insomnia, and gender moderated this relationship. Nightmare distress accounted for 24% of the variance in insomnia, with resilience explaining an additional 6.5%.
