Dream Cultures
M/C Journal March 18, 2020 L. Piatti-Farnell, Emerald L. King
This editorial introduction frames the concept of 'dream' as both a metaphor and a cultural act, drawing on Shulman and Stroumsa's argument that interpretations of dreams express culturally specific themes and meanings. It proposes that dreams channel human experience and are never created ex nihilo, serving as agents of both dread and desire. The issue collects interdisciplinary articles exploring dream culture across media, including memoirs, music, television, fashion, advertising, poetry, cars, refugee experiences, and second-generation Australian identity. The introduction aims to expand the definition of 'dream' by investigating its meanings and representations across the cultural spectrum.
