Alkaloid and Nitrogenated Compounds from Different Sections of Coryphantha macromeris Plants and Callus Cultures

Alkaloid and nitrogenated compound profiles were compared across aerial and root sections of Coryphantha macromeris plants grown in greenhouse and in vitro conditions, as well as in callus cultures derived from stem discs. Using UHPLC-PDA-HESI-Orbitrap-MS/MS, 78 compounds were detected and 61 identified. In vitro plants contained 24 compounds, greenhouse plants 21, and callus tissue 16. Seven compounds (laurydiethanolamine, toluic acids, and derivatives) appeared in all systems, suggesting they may serve as authenticity markers for C. macromeris preparations. The research indicates that no alkaloids with reported psychotropic properties are present in C. macromeris.
