A meta-analysis of five randomized controlled trials with 257 nursing students found that mindfulness meditation reduced anxiety and stress. Compared to control groups, mindfulness meditation significantly improved anxiety and stress, with effects confirmed by trial sequential analysis. After an 8-week intervention, depression also improved significantly, but no benefit was seen after a 1-week intervention, and there was no significant effect on mindfulness levels. The authors suggest that more high-quality, large-sample trials are needed for definitive conclusions.
