Perspectives of healthcare professionals and patients on the application of mindfulness in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Patient education and counseling February 1, 2017 Samantha L Harrison, Annemarie Lee, Roger S Goldstein et al.

Healthcare professionals and patients with COPD view mindfulness as an attractive but difficult-to-articulate therapy that should be optional and delivered in short sessions alongside pulmonary rehabilitation by knowledgeable, compassionate trainers. Preferred techniques include breathing meditation, music, and body scan. Stigma and negative preconceptions are barriers to participation. Efficacy should be assessed using both psychological outcome measures and qualitative methods.
