Music influences individuals on physical, mental, and spiritual levels. This article reviews the historical aesthetic and social development of music, examines its physiological effects, and discusses its clinical and social applications. It then compares how Christianity and Buddhism conceive music within their doctrines, illustrating concepts from Western and Eastern thought. The authors conclude with reflections on the role of music in spiritual and transcendental life.
