Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Stress Reduction in Family Carers of People Living with Dementia: A Systematic Review

International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health January 1, 2022 E. Chacko, Benjamin Ling, Nadav Avny et al.

A systematic review of seven studies indicates that mindfulness-based cognitive therapy may reduce self-rated stress in family carers of people living with dementia. Four studies showed a statistically significant reduction in carer stress compared to controls, and one adequately powered study also found reductions in carer burden, depression, and anxiety. The authors conclude that mindfulness-based cognitive therapy appears potentially effective but note that large, high-quality randomized controlled trials in ethnically diverse populations are needed to confirm its effectiveness.
