Effectiveness of Anapana, Body scan and Metta meditation techniques on chronic neck and shoulder region pain and disability in adult patients in Sri Lanka: study protocol for a cluster clinic-level randomised controlled trial

Trials November 15, 2022 Aranjan Lionel Karunanayake, Emma Solomon-Moore, Nikki Coghill

This paper describes the planned design for a clinical trial comparing three 8-week meditation programs (Anapana, Body scan, and Metta) against usual care for adults with chronic neck and shoulder pain. The trial will randomly assign four clinic days to either a meditation or control group. Pain, disability, range of motion, and quality of life will be measured at 4, 8, and 12 weeks. The authors aim to determine which meditation technique, if any, reduces pain and disability more than usual care.
