A Thai horror film, Tee Yod (Death Whisperer, 2023), is examined through Buddhist psychology of trauma, arguing that the ghost represents intergenerational suffering and psychological distress within a Buddhist framework. Drawing on Theravāda principles such as suffering, ignorance, impermanence, purification, mindfulness, and insight, the article contends that the film challenges Western trauma paradigms, including PTSD, by proposing an alternative recovery model grounded in Buddhist ethics and contemplative practice. A comparison with Western treatments like trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy, exposure therapy, and pharmacotherapy suggests that Buddhist-inspired approaches offer potential for moral repair, emotional regulation, and integrative healing, presenting healing as a process of awareness and compassion.
