The nature of consciousness in the context of artificial intelligence: Redefining human-technology relationships

Consciousness in artificial intelligence involves self-awareness, perception, intentionality, and subjective experience. While AI can achieve advanced cognitive abilities, whether it can exhibit higher-order consciousness remains uncertain, raising metaphysical questions about subjective awareness. The hard problem of consciousness underscores the challenge of linking physical processes to subjective experience. Ethical implications of AI integration and its impact on human experience are examined. The authors recommend further research, ethical frameworks that account for metaphysical dimensions, and exploring the extended mind hypothesis to integrate AI as an augmentation of human consciousness.
