Impact of mindfulness practices to improve quality of life and mental health of persons diagnosed with breast cancer: a systematic review.

Frontiers in Psychology January 1, 2025 Rithika Menon, T S Saranya

A systematic review of 20 studies found that mindfulness-based interventions, particularly Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), consistently improve mental health and quality of life in individuals diagnosed with breast cancer. Participants showed significant reductions in anxiety, depression, and emotional distress, along with enhanced quality of life, despite variations in session number and duration across studies. The review concludes that integrating mindfulness practices into cancer care can help address the psychological challenges of diagnosis and treatment, and recommends standardizing protocols and studying long-term effects.
