Ecstasy induced acute systolic heart failure and Non-Ischemic Cardiomyopathy in a young female: a rare case report and literature review

A 28-year-old woman with no prior medical conditions developed chest pain after taking MDMA (ecstasy). Tests suggested a possible non-ST elevation heart attack, but cardiac catheterization showed clear coronary arteries. She had regional wall motion abnormalities and reduced ejection fraction, indicating acute systolic heart failure. Standard medical management led to marked improvement in ventricular function. This case highlights that MDMA can cause acute heart failure even in young, healthy individuals.
