Medizinische Klinik, Intensivmedizin und Notfallmedizin May 1, 2014 S Grautoff, J Kähler
A 19-year-old man who nasally administered 2 mg of the novel psychoactive drug 25C-NBOMe within one hour experienced a generalized seizure two hours later, required mechanical ventilation due to loss of consciousness and low oxygen saturation, and developed acute kidney failure on day 3 and acute lung failure on day 4. His condition became life-threatening on days 7 and 8 due to insufficient oxygenation even with 80% FiO2. After 13 days in intensive care, he recovered without sequelae. The case shows that 2 mg of 25C-NBOMe can cause a critical situation involving seizure and multiple organ failure in a young healthy individual.
