Revisión histórica de los hongos psilocibios

Educación y Salud Boletín Científico Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo June 5, 2020 Gilberto Palma Ramírez, Diana Laura Pérez Sánchez, Monserrat Hernández Hernández et al. 4 citations

Psilocybin mushrooms have been consumed by diverse human groups around the world since ancient times, likely evolving as a chemical defense against insects and predators. Psilocin is toxicologically harmless to humans, but it induces expanded states of consciousness, which in antiquity linked this effect to the sacred. These mushrooms were used as oracles, for consultation, divination, and treatment. Today they have shifted from being sacred to being feared, persecuted, hidden, and now profaned and vulgarized in medicine or simple recreation. Mexico possesses a significant mycocultural legacy that is of utmost importance to preserve.
