Consciousness, Analytic Idealism and Buddhist Foundations: Exploring Non-Materialist Ways of Connecting Eastern and Western Spiritual Perspectives
Advances in Social Science and Culture April 27, 2022 P. Hyland
Explaining the connections between spiritual and scientific views of reality by accepting mainstream scientific materialism leads to problematic combinations. Instead, questioning materialism's foundations and adopting an idealist interpretation of science, reality, and spirituality offers a richer, more coherent, and more parsimonious way to link Eastern and Western worldviews. The paper explores recent idealist arguments by Bernardo Kastrup, Steve Taylor, and Donald Hoffman, and explains why these perspectives are more plausible than flawed materialist approaches.
