Psychedelic pleasures: An affective understanding of the joys of tripping.

Most people who use psychedelics do so for pleasure, not therapy, yet recreational use is rarely studied. This paper develops a Deleuzian account of drugged pleasures as affects, analyzing 100 trip reports from an internet forum. LSD and mushrooms, combined with contextual factors like other people, music, and nature, produce affective modifications in users' capacities to feel, sense, and act. Taking recreational users seriously broadens understanding of how entheogenic drugs work across different bodies and settings and may enable more productive, harm-reductive knowledge exchange between scientific and recreational psychedelic communities.
