The Third State: Toward a Quantum Information Theory of Consciousness

January 6, 2016 Scot D. Forshaw

The paper introduces a theoretical model proposing that consciousness arises from a 'Third State'—an omnipresent operator that augments binary data into a tristate condition, enabling probabilistic conscious manifestation. It presents the Unity Magnitude [Um] scale to bound quantum probabilistic memory in a finite model. The authors suggest that physical reality is fabricated from primitive components (bits, matter/antimatter, something/nothing) and that immediate present reality and consciousness are simultaneous products of frequency-stable systems, interpreted past, self-predicted future, and recursive imagination, perturbed by stochastic processes in the quantum cosmological domain.
