Scratching the structure of moral agency: insights from philosophy applied to neuroscience.

Neuroscience and philosophy can collaborate to address complex questions about free will and moral motivation, despite tensions between those who think neuroscience can definitively answer philosophical problems and skeptics who question its scope. The paper argues that such cooperation can generate scientific and social advances. To help bridge the gap, it explains the complexity of moral experience from a philosophical perspective and identifies two major challenges and gaps for neuroscience to address.
