The influence of mindfulness meditation on communication and anxiety: A case study of a person with aphasia

September 2, 2017 J. Dickinson, Philippa M. Friary, C. McCann

A four-week one-on-one mindfulness meditation programme reduced anxiety and improved some language scores in a person with post-stroke non-fluent aphasia. The Beck Anxiety Inventory score dropped from a moderate level to a minimal score. Confrontation naming, picture description, and repetition improved, but verbal fluency scores did not change. The relationship between the mindfulness intervention, reduced anxiety, and improved language remains unclear.
