A mindfulness-based breathing method reduced perceived stress, salivary cortisol levels, and alcohol craving in patients being treated for alcohol use disorder. The study compared an experimental group that practiced the breathing method with a control group. Participants had abstained from alcohol and drugs for three months and had no mental or chronic illnesses. Results indicate the method has favorable and statistically significant effects on all three measures, suggesting it could be a useful supportive intervention in alcohol treatment centers.
