Breathwork and Binaural Beats for Boosting Creativity: Examining Synergistic Effects on Divergent Thinking. A Narrative Review Using PRISMA Guidelines
This narrative review examines how breathwork and binaural beats may enhance divergent thinking, a key component of creativity. Drawing on neuroscience, psychology, and therapeutic practices, it explores mechanisms such as alpha brainwave activity, dopamine modulation, and interactions between the Default Mode Network and Executive Control Network. Slow diaphragmatic breathing and alpha binaural beats show particular promise. However, the field faces inconsistent methodologies, limited demographic diversity, and conflicting results, complicating interpretation. Standardized protocols and more representative samples are needed. Breathwork and binaural beats are presented as accessible, non-invasive, and cost-effective tools for fostering creativity and emotional resilience.
