A review of 17 controlled clinical trials examined psychedelics as an alternative treatment for major depressive disorder. Psilocybin, LSD, ketamine, and ayahuasca showed therapeutic potential, with patients experiencing clinical improvement in depression symptoms, reduced assessment scores, and improvement even in treatment-resistant cases. However, the authors note that current scientific evidence is insufficient to definitively support the therapeutic use of psychedelics for depression, and further research is needed.
