Adults who experienced severe childhood abuse or neglect performed significantly better on one precognitive remote-viewing task than those with little or no childhood trauma. The finding suggests that dissociative tendencies linked to trauma may contribute to extrasensory perception (ESP) abilities, possibly as an adaptive skill for children in unpredictable environments. Other ESP tasks showed little efficacy or correlation with trauma severity. Post-hoc analysis indicated that neglect was more closely related to ESP skill than abuse, though the difference was not significant because the two often co-occur.
Two online experiments tested whether people can accurately predict future events using precognitive remote viewing (PRV). In experiment 1, 682 unpaid participants completed 5,432 forced-choice trials with no time limit and self-judged their accuracy. In experiment 2, 307 paid participants each completed one free-response trial with a controlled time and independent judging. Overall PRV performance was significant in experiment 2 but not experiment 1. In experiment 1, sex-at-birth and target interestingness influenced accuracy, with the most interesting targets most often correctly predicted. In experiment 2, feelings of unconditional love and anxiety correlated with higher accuracy, especially anxiety among women, and target interestingness again related positively to accuracy. The results indicate that sex-at-birth, gender, emotional state, and target interestingness all affect PRV accuracy, with task characteristics moderating some effects.
