Hypnopompic hallucinations with donepezil.

Journal of psychopharmacology (Oxford, England) January 1, 2000 G A Yorston, R Gray

A case report describes hypnopompic hallucinations—vivid dream-like experiences upon waking—associated with the Alzheimer's medication donepezil. The report notes that EEG and sleep EEG changes are common in Alzheimer's disease and that acetylcholinesterase inhibitor drugs can affect rapid eye movement sleep and alertness. The authors discuss the importance of assessing sleep in patients treated with these drugs.
