Comparaison de deux types de vision : synesthésie et hypnagogie

IRIS December 15, 2019 Carol Steen

A synesthete describes the visual similarities and differences between her lifelong synesthetic photisms (triggered by sensory input) and hypnagogic visions that began in 2013 (which occur without a trigger). She compares triggers, location, appearance, colors, and commonalities of the two phenomena. The hypnagogic visions have changed over time, and now both types of visions sometimes occur together. She reports finding other synesthetes who also experience both synesthesia and hypnagogia.

Synesthetic Photisms and Hypnagogic Visions: a Comparison.

Multisensory Research January 1, 2017 Carol Steen

A lifelong synesthete describes the sudden onset of hypnagogic visions in 2013, a normal state of consciousness occurring between wakefulness and sleep. These visions appeared as a new source of photisms alongside the author's usual synesthetic experiences. The author compares the visual similarities and differences between synesthetic photisms and hypnagogic visions, including triggers, colors, lines, shapes, geometric ornamentations, and movements. The author notes that synesthetic photisms and hypnagogic visions can occur in the same experience, and discusses when the hypnagogic images first appeared and where they are seen.
