Doxazosin for the treatment of nightmare disorder: A diary-based case study.
SAGE open medical case reports January 1, 2020 Ståle Pallesen, Hilde Sofie Hamre, Nina Lang et al.
A patient who developed severe nightmares after an erroneous adrenaline injection tracked their sleep for 280 days while taking 0, 4, or 8 mg of the α1-adrenergic antagonist doxazosin. The 8 mg dose resulted in 55.2% nightmare-free nights, far exceeding the 4.3% nightmare-free nights without the drug (odds ratio = 28.2). Dizziness was reported but not bothersome. The findings suggest doxazosin may help treat posttraumatic stress disorder-related nightmares.
