Traducción y validez del Nightmare Experience Scale (NExS) en adolescentes peruanos

Nightmares are among the most common sleep disorders in adolescents, leading to various consequences for mental health and school functioning. Prevention is a key strategy at this developmental stage, requiring reliable assessment instruments. This study translated and validated the Spanish version of the Nightmare Experiences Scale (NExS) in a general population of 3,098 Peruvian adolescents. The NExS showed a unidimensional structure, acceptable reliability, factorial invariance by sex, and associations with suicidal ideation and depressive symptoms. Item 2 had the highest discrimination, and the scale is most precise at high levels of nightmare frequency. The NExS provides adequate validity evidence for measuring nightmares and is recommended for professional practice and research with adolescents due to its brevity.
